35 <p>This inscription is dated in the 3rd year of <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi> and registers a gift of gold for a lamp by a certain <hi rend="bold">Koṟṟaṉ Aruṇmoḻi</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Vāṉavaṉ Pēraraiyaṉ</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Āṟṟūr</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Māṅgāḍu-nāḍu</hi>. The money presented was apparently utilized in purchasing a land which adjoined another granted by <hi rend="bold">Naṅgai Varaguṇa-Perumāṉār</hi>. This lady has been already referred to as the wife of <hi rend="bold">Parāntaka Iḷaṅgōvēḷār</hi> and to have made a grant of land to the same temple in the 13th year of <hi rend="bold">Rājakēsarivarman (Gaṇḍarāditya)</hi>. It is now difficult to determine who this king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi> is in whose reign the gift of <hi rend="bold">Varaguṇa-Perumāṉār</hi> could be referred to. Subsequent to <hi rend="bold">Gaṇḍarāditya</hi> who ruled for about 18 years there must have ruled at least four kings before <hi rend="bold">Rājarāja</hi> I. succeeded to the throne in A. D. 985, <hi rend="italic">viz.</hi>,—<hi rend="bold">Ariṁjaya, Sundara-Chōḷa Parāntaka II., Āditya Karikāla</hi> and <hi rend="bold">Uttama-Chōḷa</hi> of whom the first probably and the two last bore the surnames <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi>. Consequently <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi> of our inscription must be identified with either <hi rend="bold">Arimjaya</hi> whose records have not been found hitherto or with <hi rend="bold">Uttama-Chōḷa</hi>. In all probability the reference appears to be to the latter.</p>
