35 <p>This Sanskrit inscription supplies some additional information about <hi rend="bold">[Pirāntakaṉ] Iruṅgōḷār</hi> <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Śiṟiyavēḷār</hi> mentioned in the two previous records. He is here called <hi rend="bold">Śiruvēḷā</hi> the foremost member in the family of the daughter of king <hi rend="bold">Pirāntaka</hi> and the light of the <hi rend="bold">Iruṅgōḷa</hi> race. The first of the attributes is interesting and has perhaps to be understood with reference to the marriage of a member of the <hi rend="bold">Koḍumbāḷūr</hi> family named <hi rend="bold">Samarābhirāma</hi> to the <hi rend="bold">Chōḷa</hi> princess <hi rend="bold">Anupamā</hi><note>See <hi rend="italic">Madras Epigraphical Report</hi> for 1908, page 87.</note> mentioned in an inscription from Mūvarkōyil. If this is so, it follows that Anupamā was a daughter of king <hi rend="bold">Parāntaka</hi> I. It is also known that prince <hi rend="bold">Arikulakēsari</hi>, son of Parāntaka I., married <hi rend="bold">Pūdi Āditta-Piḍāri</hi>, daughter of <hi rend="bold">Teṉṉavaṉ Iḷaṅgōvēḷār</hi>, another member of the same family which was called Irukkuvēḷ, Iḷaṅgōvēḷ or Iruṅgōḷa.</p>

· <p>In the 5th year of king <hi rend="bold">Sundara-Chōḷa</hi> this chief <hi rend="bold">Śiruvēḷa</hi> (<hi rend="italic">i.e.</hi>, Śiṟiyavēḷār) is stated to have given to the god at <hi rend="bold">Śrīviśalūra</hi> (<hi rend="italic">i.e.</hi>, Tiruviśalūr), some <hi rend="italic">māshakas</hi> of gold for rice <hi rend="italic">offering</hi> and the <hi rend="italic">gatānakas (gadyāṇakas</hi>) which accrued to the king as revenue from the village <hi rend="bold">Nimba</hi> or <hi rend="bold">Nimbāgrahāra</hi> for repairs, and a lamp. Nimba or Nimbāgrahāra on the northern bank of the Kāvērī is apparently the modern <hi rend="bold">Vēppattūr</hi> called <hi rend="bold">Amaninārāyaṇa-chaturvēdimaṅgalam</hi> in Tamil inscriptions.</p>

(<hi rend="italic">gave</hi>) . . . . . <hi rend="italic">māshakas</hi> increased by five for offering in perpetuity cooked rice in midday to the god dwelling in the temple . . . . . named <hi rend="bold">Śrīviśalūra</hi>. (<hi rend="italic">He</hi>) also (<hi rend="italic">gave</hi>) for whitewash (<hi rend="italic">i.e.</hi>, repairs) the <hi rend="italic">gatānakas (gadyāṇakas ?</hi>) of the village <hi rend="bold">Nimba</hi>, which were payable to the king.</p>

The king named <hi rend="bold">Śiruvēḷa</hi> who was the light of the <hi rend="bold">Iruṅkōḷa</hi> race and the foremost (<hi rend="italic">member</hi>) in the family of the daughter of (<hi rend="italic">king</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Pirāntaka</hi> gave with delight a lamp to <hi rend="bold">Hara</hi> (<hi rend="italic">Śiva</hi>) whose abode was at <hi rend="bold">Śrīviśalūra</hi>.</p>

May the <hi rend="italic">Māhēśvaras</hi> protect the lamp presented with delight in the prosperous fifth year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) the best of kings, the illustrious <hi rend="bold">Sundara</hi>-Chōḷa, by him who bore the name <hi rend="bold">Śiruvēḷa</hi>, to <hi rend="bold">Īśa</hi> (<hi rend="italic">Śiva</hi>) who was pleased (<hi rend="italic">to dwell</hi>) in the abode (<hi rend="italic">temple</hi>) of Śrīviśalūra (<hi rend="italic">situated</hi>) in the virtuous village named <hi rend="bold">Nimbāgrahāra</hi> on the northern bank of the (<hi rend="italic">river</hi>) <hi rend="bold">Kāvērī</hi>.</p>
