35 <p>This inscription is dated in the 10th year of <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi>. It registers gifts of sheep for lamps, made by <hi rend="bold">Śembiyaṉ Mārāyaṉ</hi>, a <hi rend="italic">perundanam</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Vīraśōḻa Iḷaṅgōvēḷār</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Koḍumbāḷūr</hi>, to the temple of <hi rend="bold">Kaṟkuḍi</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Nandivanmamaṅgalam. Kaṟkuḍi</hi> as the ancient name of <hi rend="bold">Uyyakkoṇḍāṉ Tirumalai</hi> occurs in the hymns of the <hi rend="italic">Dēvāram</hi>. <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi> of this inscription has been identified with <hi rend="bold">Parāntaka</hi> I. in the <hi rend="italic">Epigraphical Report</hi> for 1908-09, page 88.</p>

· <p>In the 10th year of (<hi rend="italic">the reign of</hi>) king <hi rend="bold">Parkēsarivarman, Pērānaṉ Vīranārāyaṇaṉ</hi>, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> <hi rend="bold">Śembiyaṉ Mārāyaṉ</hi>, a <hi rend="italic">perundaṉam</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Vīraśōḻa Iḷaṅgōvēḷār</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Koḍumbāḷūr</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Uṟattūr-kūṟṟam</hi>, gave ninety full-grown ewes which neither die nor grow old for a sacred perpetual lamp to be burnt regularly, as long as the moon and the sun (<hi rend="italic">endure</hi>), with (<hi rend="italic">one) uḻakku</hi> of ghee supplied by (<hi rend="italic">the measure called) śūla-vuḻakku</hi>, to the great god <hi rend="bold">(Paramēśvara)</hi> at the sacred <hi rend="bold">Kaṟkuḍi</hi> in <hi rend="bold">Nandipanmamaṅgalam</hi> which was a <hi rend="italic">brahmadēya</hi> on the southern bank (<hi rend="italic">of the Kāvērī</hi>). Having received (<hi rend="italic">these</hi>) ninety (<hi rend="italic">ewes</hi>), we, the temple servants (<hi rend="italic">dēvarkaṉmi</hi>), agreed to burn (<hi rend="italic">the lamp</hi>). In this same year, the self-same person gave fifty full-grown ewes which neither die nor grow old, for burning a day-lamp (<hi rend="italic">in the same temple</hi>). Having received these fifty ewes also, we, the temple servants, consented to burn regularly (<hi rend="italic">the lamp</hi>), supplying (<hi rend="italic">one) āḻākku</hi> of ghee by (<hi rend="italic">the measure called) śūla-vuḻakku</hi>. This (<hi rend="italic">charity</hi>) shall be (<hi rend="italic">under</hi>) the protection of (<hi rend="italic">the assembly of</hi>) all <hi rend="italic">Māhēśvaras</hi>.</p>
