35 <p>This inscription is dated in the 3rd year of the reign of the <hi rend="bold">Chōḷa</hi> king <hi rend="bold">Rājēndra</hi> (l. 4) and refers to the conquest of <hi rend="bold">Raṭṭa-pāḍi</hi> (l. 1), the setting-up of a pillar of victory at <hi rend="bold">Kollāpuram</hi> (l. 2), and the defeat of <hi rend="bold">Āhavamalla</hi> at <hi rend="bold">Koppam</hi> (l. 3).<note>See page 58 above.</note> It records that the temple authorities received 25 <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of gold from an inhabitant of <hi rend="bold">Aimbūṇi</hi>,<note>See above, p. 92 and note 10.</note> under the condition that the interest should be applied for the feeding of a learned Brāhmaṇa and other purposes. The end of the inscription is lost.</p>

· <p>(Line 1.) Hail ! Prosperity ! While the army of (<hi rend="italic">his</hi>) elder brother<note><hi rend="italic">Viz.</hi> Rājādhirāja; see p. 39 above.</note> —the king (<hi rend="italic">who held</hi>) the sceptre (<hi rend="italic">and</hi>) was embraced by the goddess of fortune—was at (<hi rend="italic">his</hi>) back, (<hi rend="italic">he</hi>) conquered the seven and a half <hi rend="italic">lakshas</hi> of <hi rend="bold">Iraṭṭa-pāḍi</hi>. When the first elephant (<hi rend="italic">of the enemy</hi>) went at his elephant, (<hi rend="italic">his</hi>) elder brother stopped (<hi rend="italic">it). (He</hi>) set up a pillar of victory at <hi rend="bold">Kollāpuram</hi> and did not meet with opposition in battle, (<hi rend="italic">but his</hi>) drums were sounding through the eight directions. Having heard this (<hi rend="italic">report</hi>), <hi rend="bold">Āhavamalla</hi> proceeded to <hi rend="bold">Koppam</hi> on the bank of the great river and fought against (<hi rend="italic">him), (but</hi>) became afraid, incurred disgrace and ran away. (<hi rend="italic">The king</hi>) seized his elephants and horses, (<hi rend="italic">his</hi>) women and treasures, together with the camels, and performed the anointment of victory. In the 3rd year (<hi rend="italic">of the reign</hi>) of (<hi rend="italic">this</hi>) king <hi rend="bold">Parakēsarivarman</hi>, <hi rend="italic">alias</hi> the lord <hi rend="bold">Śrī-Rājēndradēva</hi>, who was graciously seated on the throne of heroes.</p>

80 <p>(L. 6.) These 25 (<hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi>) of gold (<hi rend="italic">we</hi>) have received under the following conditions:— The interest on (20 <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of) this gold being (one) <hi rend="italic">padakku</hi> of paddy per day, (<hi rend="italic">measured</hi>) by the <hi rend="italic">marakkāl</hi> (called after) <hi rend="bold">Arumoḻidēvaṉ</hi>,<note>See above, p. 8 and note 3.</note> <hi rend="italic">viz.</hi> three <hi rend="italic">uḻākku</hi> and two <hi rend="italic">śeviḍu</hi> of paddy per day from every <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi>, we shall give this paddy to a Brāhmaṇa who has become a <hi rend="italic">Dīkshita</hi> (and) who knows (?) the <hi rend="italic">Vēda</hi> and the sacred <hi rend="italic">Āgama</hi>, and shall cause (<hi rend="italic">the god</hi>) to be worshipped by him. The interest on three <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of gold being half a <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of gold per year, we shall have to give every second year (one) <hi rend="italic">kaḻañju</hi> of gold to him who performs the worship in the temple.
