Translation by Gopinatha Rao [1908] 1988

The king Aḻakaṉ Kulaśekhara, the ruler of the earth, deciding that the work done by his elder brother on the beautiful gopura, which is praised even by the celestials, should not remain thus incomplete, finished it fully with brick.
