Translation

Prosperity! Fortune!

To the koṭukkappiḷḷais (koṭukkappiḷḷaikaḷ) ⟨at the service of⟩ Nantippōttaraiyar¹:

"⟨We,⟩ the ūrārs of Uḻalūr, according to (paṭi) the makaḷmai, after having made a request to the lord (perumāṉaṭikaḷukku), we have given with (koṇṭu) all immunities."

As per the above (mēlālum), the koṭukkappiḷḷais:

"The feet of he who protects this (donation) are on ⟨our⟩ heads (literally: tufts)."

At the order (paṇi-y-āl) of the koṭukkappiḷḷais, (this is) what Arituṭṭaṉ, the guard (kāppāṉ) of the gem-treasury (māṇikka-p-paṇṭāram) and guard of the body of the Siṁhala ⟨king⟩ [OR: the Siṁhala body-guard from] (ciṅkaḷa-mey-kāppaṉ), after coming, had made.

⟨3⟩ makaḷmai: i.e. makaṇmai or makaṉmai, a tax? I.e. what is given is a tax? According to sonship? Cf. piḷḷai = "son" of NP?

<p>To the <foreign>koṭukkappiḷḷai</foreign>s <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>koṭukkappiḷḷaikaḷ</foreign></supplied> <supplied reason="subaudible">at the service of</supplied> Nantippōttaraiyar<note>Sanskrit Nandin + Tamil Pōttaraiyar. That is, the Pallava king Nandin, that is, Nandivarman II.</note>:</p>

<p>"<supplied reason="subaudible">We,</supplied> the <foreign>ūrār</foreign>s of Uḻalūr, according to <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>paṭi</foreign></supplied> the <foreign>makaḷmai</foreign>, after having made a request to the lord <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>perumāṉaṭikaḷukku</foreign></supplied>, we have given with <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>koṇṭu</foreign></supplied> all immunities."</p>
