· <p rend="stanza" n="1">Il y eut un <supplied reason="subaudible">roi</supplied> fortuné nommé Śrī Harṣavarman dont les rois élevaient les ordres <supplied reason="subaudible">sur leurs têtes</supplied>, et qui commença à régner <supplied reason="subaudible">en l'année marquée</supplied> par les <supplied reason="subaudible">8</supplied> formes, les <supplied reason="subaudible">6</supplied> saveurs et les <supplied reason="subaudible">3</supplied> Vedas.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="2">Son serviteur, incoercible pour les ennemis, cher à son maître à cause de sa dévotion, reçut le nom de Śrī Vīrendravikhyāta avec des honneurs.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="3">Le roi lui donna, en raison de sa dévotion envers son maître, une abondance de biens, avec des champs et cette forêt de pleine gibier.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="4">A yant considéré cette forêt couverte de jeunes pousses de <gap reason="lost"/>, pleine d'épines, il la nomma par association d'idées Vrai Saṅkāt.</p>
280 <p rend="stanza" n="5">Ayant arraché toutes les épines et coupé la forêt sauvage, il fonda un village <gap reason="lost"/> et y établit sa famille.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="6">Les limites <supplied reason="subaudible">du terrain</supplied> sont : à l'est la forêt Puṣyalata <supplied reason="explanation">"lianes fleuries"</supplied>, au sud <gap reason="lost"/>, à l'ouest le chemin du tertre et au nord Travāṅ Slvāt.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="7"><gap reason="lost"/> brille <gap reason="lost"/> pour la prière, ayant considéré la prospérité du monde ici-bas, il a <gap reason="lost"/> une image de Lokeśa.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="8">Le roi nommé Śrī Rājendravarman, lune parmi les rois, fortuné, obtint la royauté <supplied reason="subaudible">en l'année marquée</supplied> par les <supplied reason="subaudible">8</supplied> Vasu, les <supplied reason="subaudible">6</supplied> saisons et les <supplied reason="subaudible">6</supplied> saveurs <gap reason="lost"/>.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="9"><gap reason="lost"/> sage, jouissant d'une grande fortune et de la faveur <supplied reason="subaudible">royale</supplied>, il reçut le nom approprié de Śrī Kavīndrārimathana.</p>
285 <p rend="stanza" n="10">Sa respectable épouse était nommée Kontī ; de celle-ci l'oncle maternel était le nommé Śrī Vīrendravikhyāta.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="11">Celui-ci, en récompense de sa fidélité, reçut du roi des biens et des honneurs, grâce au crédit du fortuné Śrī Kavīndrārimathana.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="12">Ayant offert au roi sa propre nièce nommée Kontī, il la plaça par ordre du roi dans la caste des serviteurs dans les dépendances du palais.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="13">A cause de sa fidélité envers son souverain, le roi donna à ce <supplied reason="subaudible">Vīrendravikhyāta</supplied> cette pure image en bronze de Lokeśvara et de Devī, avec ses ornements.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="14"><supplied reason="subaudible">Dans l'année marquée</supplied> par 8, les <supplied reason="subaudible">7</supplied> montagnes et les <supplied reason="subaudible">5</supplied> flèches 3, cet éminent bouddhiste, à l'esprit large, érigea pieusement ici, dans ce groupe de prāsāt et de demeures célestes, comme dans son propre cœur, cette double image d'Avalokiteśa et celle de Devī, avec les rites prescrits.</p>
290 <p rend="stanza" n="15">Ce bassin mesurant en longueur plus de trois cent six brasses, et en largeur trois cent trois brasses et demie,</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="16">il l'a fait pour le bénéfice des êtres vivants aux trois moments de la journées, et pour les ablutions des trois immortels érigés <supplied reason="subaudible">par lui</supplied>.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="17">Le champ et le vihāra de Jeṅ Aran, le champ et le pressoir de Jāvar, le champ de Pamok Jambū, et le champ de Canloṅ,</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="18">les champs de Slā Kraṅ, Stuk Krā-, Caṁpok Dvāyy, Dilok, Kaṁvaṁ Vavoṅ, Turaṅga et le champ de Voḥ Man,</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="19">la puissante divinité, le pays avec ses terres, ses jardins et ses lieux de plaisir, ce Śrī Vīrendravikhyāta a donné tout cela à Kontī.</p>

· <p rend="stanza" n="1">There was <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>āsīt</foreign></supplied> <supplied reason="subaudible">a king</supplied> called <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>iti</foreign></supplied> Śrī-Harṣavarman, illustrious <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>śrīmān</foreign></supplied>, who took up the prosperity of the kingdom <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>labdharājyodayaḥ</foreign></supplied> <supplied reason="subaudible">in the śaka year marked by</supplied> bodies <supplied reason="subaudible">8</supplied>, tastes <supplied reason="subaudible">6</supplied>, Vedas <supplied reason="subaudible">3</supplied>.</p>
300 <p rend="stanza" n="2"><supplied reason="subaudible">There was</supplied> servant <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhṛtyaḥ</foreign></supplied> of his <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tasya</foreign></supplied>, invincible to enemies <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>aridurvāryaḥ</foreign></supplied>, dear <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>priyaḥ</foreign></supplied> because of his devotion to his master <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhartṛbhaktitayā</foreign></supplied>, who <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>yaḥ</foreign></supplied> received <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>avāpa</foreign></supplied> the name <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>nāma</foreign></supplied> Vīrendravikhyāta, along with honours <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>vibhūtibhiḥ</foreign></supplied>.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="3">Because of his devotion to his master <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>svāmibhaktitayā</foreign></supplied>, the king <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>rājā</foreign></supplied> gave <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>adāt</foreign></supplied> him <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tasmai</foreign></supplied> a wealth of goods <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhogasampadam</foreign></supplied>, and also <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>ca</foreign></supplied> this <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>etat</foreign></supplied> forest <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>vanam</foreign></supplied>, along with a meadow <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kedārasaṃyutam</foreign></supplied>, full of forest animals <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>vanamṛgākulam</foreign></supplied>.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="4">On seeing <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>vīkṣya</foreign></supplied> this <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>yat</foreign></supplied> forest <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kānanam</foreign></supplied> spread with the tendrils of creepers <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>latāpratānavitataṃ</foreign></supplied> and full of thorns <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kaṇṭakākulam</foreign></supplied>, and dense with impenetrability <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>saṅkaṭāḍhyaṃ ca</foreign></supplied> he called <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>uvāca</foreign></supplied> it <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tat</foreign></supplied> Vraisaṅkād.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="5">Extirpating <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>utkṛtya</foreign></supplied> all <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>sarvam</foreign></supplied> the thorns <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kaṇṭakam</foreign></supplied>, he cut down <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>vicchidya</foreign></supplied> the fierce <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>ugram</foreign></supplied> forest <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kānanam</foreign></supplied>, adorned <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>samalaṅkṛtya</foreign></supplied> <supplied reason="subaudible">that place</supplied> with a village <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>grāmeṇa</foreign></supplied> and he <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>saḥ</foreign></supplied> installed <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>atiṣṭhipat</foreign></supplied> there <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tatra</foreign></supplied> a temple <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kulam</foreign></supplied>.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="6">In the east <supplied reason="subaudible">the boundary</supplied> is the forest Puṣyalata; in the south the limit is <gap reason="lost"/>; and in the west it is the “Land Road”; and in the north it is the “Smooth Tank” <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>travāṅ slvād</foreign></supplied>.</p>

· <p rend="stanza" n="8">There was once <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>āsīt</foreign></supplied> a moon among great kings <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>rājendrarajanīśvaraḥ</foreign></supplied> called <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>iti</foreign></supplied> Rājendravar- man, splendid <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>śrīmān</foreign></supplied>, who ornamented his halo/kingdom <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhūṣitātmīyamaṇḍalaḥ</foreign></supplied> <supplied reason="subaudible">in the śaka year marked</supplied> by <supplied reason="subaudible">8</supplied> Vasus, <supplied reason="subaudible">6</supplied> seasons, <supplied reason="subaudible">6</supplied> flavours <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>rasartuvasubhiḥ</foreign></supplied>.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="9">That <supplied reason="subaudible">Rājendravarman</supplied> <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tasya</foreign></supplied> had a trustworthy servant <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>āptabhṛtyaḥ</foreign></supplied>, intelligent <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>matimān</foreign></supplied>, whose good fortune was due to his loyalty <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhaktibhāgyaḥ</foreign></supplied>, a chief favourite <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>ativallabhaḥ</foreign></supplied>, who <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>yaḥ</foreign></supplied> received <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>avāpa</foreign></supplied> the fitting <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>anvartam</foreign></supplied> name <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>nāma</foreign></supplied> Śrī Kavīndrārimathana.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="10">And <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>api</foreign></supplied> he <supplied reason="subaudible">had</supplied> <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tasya</foreign></supplied> a wife <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhāryā</foreign></supplied>, called Kauntī <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kontīnāmnī</foreign></supplied> of good family <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kulyā</foreign></supplied>, famous <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>yaśasvinī</foreign></supplied>; her <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tasyāḥ</foreign></supplied> maternal uncle <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>yo mātulaḥ</foreign></supplied> bore the celebrated name Śrī Vīrendravikhyāta,</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="11">who <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>yaḥ</foreign></supplied> received privileges and wealth <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>labdhabhogavibhūtiḥ</foreign></supplied> from the king <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>rājñaḥ</foreign></supplied> because of his devotion <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhaktitaḥ</foreign></supplied> towards the king <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>rājani</foreign></supplied>, thanks to the powers <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>śaktibhiḥ</foreign></supplied> of the illustrious <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>śrīmataḥ</foreign></supplied> personage called Śrī-Kavīndrārimathana.</p>
310 <p rend="stanza" n="12">Śrī-Vīrendravikhyāta <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>yaḥ</foreign></supplied> offered <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>nivedya</foreign></supplied> his own <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>svām</foreign></supplied> sororal niece <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhāgineyīm</foreign></supplied>, namely this same <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>tām</foreign></supplied> Kauntī <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kontyākhyām</foreign></supplied>, and further <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>api</foreign></supplied> installed her <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>atiṣṭhipat</foreign></supplied> in <supplied reason="subaudible">charge of</supplied> the group of servants <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>sevivarṇe</foreign></supplied> in the storehouses of ornaments <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>upaskarageheṣu</foreign></supplied> in accordance with <supplied reason="subaudible">the order of</supplied> the king <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>rājñā</foreign></supplied>.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="13">Because of his devotion <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhaktyā</foreign></supplied> to the king <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhūmipateḥ</foreign></supplied>, the king <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhūpatiḥ</foreign></supplied> gave <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>dadau</foreign></supplied> this <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>imām</foreign></supplied> pure <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>śuddhām</foreign></supplied> brazen <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>kaṅsamayīm</foreign></supplied> image <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>arcām</foreign></supplied> of the goddess <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>devyāḥ</foreign></supplied> <supplied reason="subaudible">and</supplied> of Lokeśvara, along with ornaments <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>sabhūṣām</foreign></supplied>, to Vīrendravikhyāta <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>yasmai</foreign></supplied>.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="14">This person of broad/generous mind <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>saḥ...vipuladhīḥ</foreign></supplied>, a Buddhist <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bauddhaḥ</foreign></supplied> of lofty mind <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>agradhīḥ</foreign></supplied>, in accordance with the rules <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>suvidhinā</foreign></supplied>, established <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>asthāpayat</foreign></supplied> two images of Avalokiteśa <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>avalokiteśarūpadvayam</foreign></supplied>, along with an image of the goddess <supplied reason="subaudible">Prajñāpāramitā</supplied> <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>sahadevirūpam</foreign></supplied>, with devotion <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>bhaktyā</foreign></supplied>, here in this <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>atra</foreign></supplied> heavenly <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>divye</foreign></supplied> group of temple-mansions <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>prāsādaharmyanivahe</foreign></supplied>, just as <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>iva</foreign></supplied> <supplied reason="subaudible">they are installed</supplied> in his own heart <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>svahṛdi</foreign></supplied> in the <supplied reason="subaudible">śaka year</supplied> 875 <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>śaranagāṣṭabhiḥ</foreign></supplied>.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="15">This <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>yat</foreign></supplied> tank <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>taṭākakam</foreign></supplied> of three hundred vyāmas <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>triśatāyāmasaṃyutam</foreign></supplied>, along with an extra <supplied reason="subaudible">length consisting</supplied> of six <foreign>vyāma</foreign>s <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>ṣaḍvyāmaśeṣasaṃyuktam</foreign></supplied>, having a width of one hundred and fifty three vyāmas <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>trivyāmatriśatārdhāṅkavistāram</foreign></supplied> <gap reason="lost"/>.</p>
· <p rend="stanza" n="16"><gap reason="lost"/>this <supplied reason="subaudible">Vīrendravikhyāta</supplied> made for the merit <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>hitārtham</foreign></supplied> of sentient beings living in all three times <supplied reason="subaudible">of past, present and future</supplied> <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>triṣkālabhūtasatvānām</foreign></supplied> and <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>ca</foreign></supplied> for the ritual of bathing the three <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>trayāṇām</foreign></supplied> immortals installed here <supplied reason="explanation"><foreign>saṁsthāpitāmarāṇām</foreign></supplied>.</p>
