(1) Success! Oṁ, salutation to Śiva!

I
The one who is the creator of the three worlds, by whose bodies beginning with the earth this world is maintained, who is known as Īśvara and there was nobody else [like him], who, subject to divisions of the three characters, just alone shares the three names of Brahmā, Upendra (Viṣṇu) and Maheśvara, salutation to that lord of the worlds!
II
The crest jewel of the destroyer of Tripura (Śiva), the silver pitcher of ablution of the youth of Smara (Kāma), the circle of whet stone for arrows of the one with arrows of flowers (Kāma), may the mark of night, the one with cold beams (the Moon), be victorious!
III
In his lineage, those several kings with boundless manliness were born. The eulogy of fame about them on the earth is really the Bhāratasaṁhitā (the Mahābhārata).
IV
Then Naragīrvāṇa, who had sharp arrows, the best among kings, whose splendour was well-known and who was the source of Kamalā (Śrī) of the kingdom of Śrīhaṭṭa, was born.
V
His son, the grandfather of king, the king named Śohuṇadeva was born. The rays of the Sun that was his prowess also allocated colour to the seal that was dullness of enemy kings.
VI
From him was born the king Nārāyaṇa, who had Śrī uplifted from the ocean of enemy kings churned by Mandara Mountain that was his restless arm. By him, connected with joy, that lord with opened hood [of serpents](Viṣṇu) was imitated.
VII
From him was born this Keśavadeva, who had fame sung of the weight of his boundless virtues, whose footstool was adorned with crest jewels of kings, the illustrious mark of kings, known as Govinda for cowherdesses that were enemy kings.
VIII
May he, an abode of manliness wonderful to frontiers and fame, a refuge of wealth, a residence of knowledge, a nest of good conduct, that sole seat of glories, an abode of liberality, a house of pleasure, a storehouse of word and arts, a mansion of friendliness, an embodied group of virtues, be victorious!
IX
After defending the earth {a herd of cows} by the rod of arm with kings restored {a mountain uplifted}, founding the good Vr̥ndāvana with regards, he did not make the festival of cups {Kaṁsa}. That illustrious Keśavadeva {god Keśava(Kr̥ṣṇa)}, the king whose enemy circle was scattered, always made with anger a remnant in a lineage of enemy where [he made] one a protector of child {Śiśupāla}.
X
After making this earth under one umbrella by energy of his arm, by him, the conqueror, the sole position of authority was craved for in this world. [His] hand was laid on the foot of the wish-fulfilling tree, valour on the deed of the Sun, fame on the region of the Moon, and arm on the jurisdiction of the king of snakes.
XI
When he was ruling the entire earth, who had exactly the appearance of the beloved woman, with the ablution of the first king, there was the punishment of transgressions from the way of the Śrutis.
XII
This crest jewel of the previous kings, whose desire was subdued, causing joy of the circle of allies arise by the play of his sword and having the decoration of kings scattered, shone forth very far away.
XIII
His suitable fame with blaze of the Moon makes the world white, chastises the rise of lotus that was his enemy, and manifests a white water-lily. “Then what is white but colouring, what is roaming continually but steady, and what is this which has cause but is as if eternal?” It (his fame) is wonderful as such.
XIV
This is the one, which is inferred by tears of kings, which is swollen by blood of enemies, which augments dullness of enemy kings by ablations to flame, which, after surpassing a multitude of peaks, reaches to the sky, frequently licking it. With this (smoke), may the fire that is heat of anger of the king, which has wonder as its sole border, be victorious!
XV
By that king, fit for seizing the preceding leg, a bow that was a multitude of enemies was bent in twofold bend by two strings and by one unparalleled power fit for excellence of limitless might.
XVI
By that king, who had a glittering scimitar in his hand and unmeasurable valour, this entire earth was conquered, as if by his own fame which overstepped many oceans.
XVII
Then there was this venerable Vaṭeśvara, the lord of the three worlds, the beginning of the world not in his original form, who made descent on the earth at Bhaṭṭapāṭaka, without longing for the residence of Kailāsa.
XVIII
To that moon-crested one (Śiva), this chief of all kings, whose feet is flashing by crest jewels of kings, has given in various villages [the following objects]:
XIX
Three hundred added by seventy-five of halas of land, and two hundred accompanied by ninety-six of gardens.
XX
This lord of Śrīhaṭṭa, praising Śiva, gave various attendants and jātis of people in great number to that Śiva.
